Best hospitals...
US News and World Report consistently ranks a number of Pittsburgh institutions among its best in the nation. Like many major metropolitan locations, most of the area's biggest and highest ranking hospitals are within city limits. Oakland (PA's 3rd largest employment center behind Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) is home to the University of Pittsburgh and the area's largest medical provider, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
Best museums...
Pittsburgh is blessed with many high quality and centrally located museums. Pittsburgh entrepreneur Andrew Carnegie, Pittsburgh corporation Heinz, and Pittsburgh artist Andy Warhol funded and or inspired some the region's finest. Best restaurant scene...
From Food and Wine top ten notoriety to New York times recognition, Pittsburgh's restaurant scene has come alive. There are seemingly countless unique and worthwhile restaurants to try, each offering a great night out as well as a wonderful meal. The city's top five restaurant concentrations shown below were selected because they offer the best variety, ambiance, and quality. Other areas like the Strip District, Bloomfield, and North Shore also offer excellent choices. A listing of Pittsburgh's best restaurants can be viewed here.
Best night life...
Pittsburgh's nightlife scene if primarily centered around the five locations shown below. Each offers something a little different and caters to a different crowd. The Southside will be the most populous, party-style atmosphere on a weekend night. Their crowds are mostly college-age, up through mid-30s. The Strip District houses the city's largest night clubs. Lawrenceville offers a street filled with trendy bars and restaurants, catering to the young professionals. Downtown offers a similar vibe, with bars and restaurants serving a slightly higher-end crowd. The North Shore is the area's newest development. Its situated between the baseball and football stadiums, comprised of a nice collection of restaurants and large bars. Plenty of dance floor space can be found on the North Shore as well.
